Slight word got out early this week about the strength of the US biggest banks in the housing market, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. What would normally be dismissed was now being acted upon in these troubled times, with vast movement of shares trading hands and the value of these companies stocks plunging rapidly.

The Viet Cong used antibiotics and other medications in the 1960s and 1970s that were "liberated" from the French in the 1940 and 1950s. While this could be leaning toward the extreme, it is a testament to what has worked in the past, for others in need.

Having a ready to use source of ammunition, is important insurance against the day of need. We can own the best weapons and gear, but without a source of usable ammunition, all we have is an expensive club. Insuring our supplies will be ready to use tomorrow or fifty plus years from now should be a top priority for the survival minded person.

We need to become as medically independent as possible. If you are unemployed or uninsured, getting sick or wounded is not an option. As the economy worsens, more workers will loose their jobs along with the health insurance benefits provided by their former employer. Many will be unable to pay for medical care if needed and will be out of luck if the need should arise.

For years survival types have asked the question; where is the “perfect” retreat location? Many words have been written on the subject by authors such as Mel Tappan and James Wesley Rawles, but the simple fact is there is no perfect location. Granted some places are indeed better then others, some being much better. But trying to find the “ideal location” to avoid the golden horde is for the most part a futile endeavor.
